In January, U.S. employers were hit with sweeping new changes to the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The changes affect many key areas of FMLA, including notice requirements, medical certifications, and the definition of "continuing treatment" of a serious health condition.

The changes have created additional headaches in California, where employers are already dealing with the California Family Rights Act (CFRA), state-specific pregnancy leave rules, and other California-specific laws. In some cases, you're in violation of California law if you use the model FMLA forms provided by the DOL.

Listen to an in-depth audio conference specifically for California employers all about the new changes to FMLA, and how they interact with your obligations under state law.

YOU AND YOUR COLLEAGUES WILL LEARN:

  • In plain English, what's changed at the federal level, and what you need to do in response
  • How the new FMLA rules affect California employers
  • The new rules on medical certifications and doctor visits for employees with chronic medical conditions
  • How to interpret and apply both the new and previously released changes that apply to military families
  • When, under the new rules, you're allowed to ask for a "fitness-for-duty" evaluation
  • The new restrictions on your supervisors, which were designed to enhance employee privacy
  • What the new changes mean for your perfect attendance programs
  • What you can do—and what you should never do—when reviewing and investigating potential FMLA abuses by your workers
  • The changes to the notice requirements—and why they're considered good news for employers
  • How the new federal rules will affect the way you treat pregnant employees in California
